August Meeting

In Nigeria, the “Mothers’ Summit”, popularly known as “August Meeting”, is a concept common among Igbo women of the South East who are resident in Nigeria or indeed abroad. This meeting, usually organized during the month of August, is the exclusive preserve of all Igbo married women. Adorned in traditional attire, uniformly worn by all the women, the meetings are carefully designed to promote the pride of womanhood, propagate it’s empowerment while all at the same time still showcasing Igbo culture.

The work, August Meeting - of the same name title - draws inspiration from the above and seeks not just to celebrate the fashion/cultural elements of the meetings but also to elaborate on the embedded motives of gender equality and women empowerment that these meetings buttress.
